Well, after posting the first set of sailing photos I ended up buying a full membership at the Boston Sailing Center together with Jonathan. Now we are full members, can rent boats for a full day, instead of half a day, and can sail out of the inner harbor and around the islands! We wanted to sail all day on Saturday, August 18, for the wind was way too strong and small boats were not allowed to go out. We went on Sunday, August 19, 2007 instead. These photos depict that journey. Let's see if I can recreate it here. We sailed straight out of the inner harbor, which we know so well by now, past the Logan Airport, and straight into the channel past the Spectacle Island and towards the long auto bridge that connects the main land with the Long Island. Once we passed the bridge, we turned North/North-East (or simply left) and sailed towards Nixes Mate. Nixes Mate is the black and white wooden pyramid beacon that you see in some of the photos and it has a pretty interesting history. Near Nixes Mate we went left again and entered a channel that leads back into the inner harbor, except we had no intention of returning back to Boston so soon! We circled around Nixes Mate and sailed East/South-East between two islands, one of which I know is Lovell Island and the other one could have been Georges Island (I am using Google Maps as I am writing this and don't have access to the nautical chart that we used while sailing). We then went North past Great Brewster Island, turned right before Calf Island, sailed past Middle Brewster Island and... got stuck with no wind right next to Outer Brewster Island... yep, I know exactly what Jonathan was thinking at that point: POWER boat! We eventually and somewhat miraculously managed to go around Outer Brewster and started our journey back. Past Shag Rocks and Little Brewster Island with a lighthouse on it, past Lovell Island again, except we kept going South-West, between Long and Rainsford Islands, under the long bridge, between Spectacle and Long Islands, into the channel and back into the inner harbor. We sailed for 8 (yes, eight) hours! What a gorgeous day and a ton of fun!
